There are Only Two Important Things In Life – Do You Know What They Are?

The Unwanted Visitor – Health Issues

For over four weeks now, an unwelcome guest has lodged itself into my life – health issues. It wasn’t a cold, nor was it Covid. Figuring out what it is has been the real problem.

It all started with an incident that seemed like food poisoning. My husband and I shared a lovely meal at our favorite restaurant, and not long after, I found myself hunched over, losing my dinner. My initial guess was the cheese on the burger; after all, we both had some and felt a bit off. However, while he bounced back, I didn’t.

The Mystery Intensifies

Following the incident at the restaurant, I experienced a peculiar back pain on my left side. It wasn’t the typical muscle strain type of pain; it felt more internal, yet I couldn’t exactly pinpoint it. Suspecting a Urinary Tract Infection (UTI), I took two urine tests. Between bad medical advice and misguided suggestions, I felt frustrated and desperate for answers. All I can say is, if you can help it, avoid One Medical Group – they’re convenient but their care leaves much to be desired.

On the bright side, my chiropractor was an oasis amidst this medical desert. He suggested that I might have strained my hip flexors, which could result in internal pain as the body attempts to compensate and heal. His adjustments brought some relief, for which I was immensely grateful.

Still Searching

Just when I thought I was getting somewhere, a new symptom cropped up – a dull but persistent pain in the lower left side of my abdomen. It came and went, but when it was present, it sucked away my energy. Considering my age and being at a pre-menopausal stage, I decided to get an ultrasound to ensure my female organs were in good shape, especially given that I had to have a polyp removed last year. Thankfully, everything seemed fine there. The ultrasound technician, upon hearing about my recent dance performance, suggested that I may have strained my psoas muscles. She recommended some stretches that might help. I followed her advice, and it did help a bit, but the dull, random pain lingered.

Why am I sharing my ordeal with you?

importance of health and timeWell, as I’ve grown older, two things in life have shown themselves to be of the utmost importance – health and time. Today, at 51, I find myself looking ahead, and realizing that in just 19 years, I’ll be 70. This thought is not just sobering; it’s a wake-up call. It’s a stark reminder of how important it is to maintain good health and use our time wisely. We have only one body, and we have a finite amount of time on this earth. Everything else – important memories, experiences, money and promotions – can be manipulated or created as long as we’re healthy and choose to spend our time wisely.

The Crucial Role of Health: Through all this, I’ve realized that health is more than just the absence of disease. It’s about feeling good in my body, having the energy to do the things I love, andnot being held back by pain or discomfort. My health influences every aspect of my life, from mood and energy levels to my ability to work and enjoy life. This body is the only one I have, and I need to pay even more attention to it as I get older.

Time – A Non-renewable Resource:As I’ve spent hours in doctor’s offices and days in discomfort, I’ve come to appreciate the value of time. It’s a non-renewable resource, and we often take it for granted, spending it mindlessly. Once a moment has passed, it’s gone forever. Why not spend it wisely, doing things we love, with the people we care about?  It’s time to make every second count.

An Enlightening Read – “Die with Zero”

In the midst of my health struggles, I’ve begun reading a book that has offered a new perspective on life – “Die with Zero” by Bill Perkins. Perkins promotes a balanced approach to life, urging readers to fully optimize their life experiences to ensure a life well-lived.

The key takeaway so far is Perkins’ push for finding a balance between money earned, time spent, and experiences lived. He encourages us to spend our resources, be it money or time, to acquire rich life experiences, because, at the end of our lives, it’s these experiences and memories that matter the most. This book feels like a timely read, aligning perfectly with my current thoughts on health and time. I’ll share more insights once I have a chance to read more of it.

A New Chapter

This journey of healing and self-discovery has sparked a new chapter in my life. It’s about respecting my body, valuing my time, and seeking richer life experiences. And as I embark on this journey, I invite you to join me. Let’s prioritize our health, make conscious decisions about our time, and strive to “Die with Zero,” rich in experiences and memories. After all, isn’t that what truly living is about?
